It surprised me that Oliver was interested in family history. I told him we have not been able to find any pictures or information about Dobrau and that nothing is left anymore. At the last moment I said, 'why don't you seek in Polish history and look for Dobra, rather than Dobrau' In less than 10 minutes Oliver called me and said, 'Papa look at your email' I could not believe what my eyes saw, nor could I then imagine the gift my son had given me.....Truly, what was it that inspired me to say look in Polish history and take the u off of Dobra(u)? Perhaps it was the very same inspiration that led Jolanta Ilnicka to write this blog.

One day in January of 2015, when I was taking hours and hours days and months, to research Poland - Dobra, my wife Linda looked at the computer and said, 'do you see this blog that apparently mentions Muriel White Seherr-Thoss - the Good Lady?' Again fate seemed to intervene as this gift gave Jolanta Jeneck Ilnicka and Paul Church the opportunity to find one another. When we were children our Oma Margaret often told us of the families that were a part of Dobra. How these men and women were so very kind, strong, and very dedicated to their part in the life of Dobra, which would not have been possible without these families.

Still another piece of the story, Jolanta and I were very close to our grandmothers, who told us the stories of their lives and hearts, which then became part of the stories of our hearts and lives. I believe that it is extremely important to listen to the heart and to dream of what ones longs for. Still, I had given up any faith that I would see Oppeln Opole, to then find Jola, and to imagine what it could be like to meet her and possibly go into the Good with her on my arm, well that is just what we did. This honors the lives of Jola's and my ancestors. What dreams do people hold in the heart - for a lifetime???, and when the soul leaves this life, clearly the soul continues on because we the next generation have our distinct place and purpose in the history of our times.

And then there is Robert of Gogolin. A family man who has lived in and loves the heritage of his country and the Krapkowice region. Robert entered my life through Jola and began to write me very kind messages and sent pictures of the progress of Palac Dobra's renovation. He encouraged Linda and I to 'come and see what is waiting here for you' Indeed, Robert had so many wonderful surprises for us including a vist to Schloss Kamienietz our Strachwitz relatives and the beautiful bell tower that had been restored to the palace after the war. The little church there is so full of peace, faith, and beauty, it was amazing to be there and be lifted by the chorus of the bells, which my relatives clearly also heard at the celebration of the mass. Robert was our guide and host and we were privileged to meet his family too.

For those of you who have your own battles with genealogy, I hope you will continue to seek what you are hoping to find. Jola and I can say that we have found more answers, and she tells me that she has learned more about her husband, Mariusz's family also - finally. The heavens have been guiding people for millennia, look to the stars for help, your loved ones are looking down at you. Paul M.
